Jose Padilha's 2014 remake attempted to modernize RoboCop for the drone-warfare era, trading Verhoeven's satirical ultraviolence for political commentary on automation and surveillance. Despite a strong cast including Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton, the studio's push for a PG-13 rating stripped the film of the edge that made the original a classic.
