Sherlock: Season 4

Sherlock's fourth season is its darkest, shifting from deductive puzzle-box into psychological thriller. The Six Thatchers opens with Sherlock on autopilot, chasing a case that conceals a devastating revelation about Mary Watson's past. The Lying Detective guest-stars Toby Jones as Culverton Smith, a serial killer whose corporate philanthropy masks his murders, and the episode stages Sherlock's drug-fueled confrontation with Smith as the show's most harrowing sequence. The Final Problem reveals Eurus Holmes, Sherlock's forgotten sister, confined to Sherrinford, a maximum-security psychiatric facility. Sian Brooke plays Eurus with a chilling intensity that reframes Sherlock's entire backstory. The season trades the clever deductions of earlier years for emotional trauma and family secrets, and the finale's resolution, where Sherlock's empathy rather than his intellect saves the day, divided fans. Whether Season 4 is a satisfying conclusion or a frustrating departure depends on which version of Sherlock you preferred.
