Zathura: A Space Adventure
November 6, 2005 in theaters
December 21, 2005 on Netflix
Zathura is Jon Favreau's 2005 space adventure, a companion to Jumanji drawn from Chris Van Allsburg's picture book — when two squabbling brothers start the board game, their house is hurled into deep space and every turn brings a new threat. It runs on the same rules-driven premise as Jumanji but swaps the jungle for meteors, malfunctioning robots, and a stranded astronaut. In Sci-Fi Worlds it earns its spot as a family adventure made with real craft, and one of the most underrated sci-fi rides of its era.

Jon Favreau's sci-fi companion to Jumanji relies heavily on practical mechanical effects and genuine sibling conflict to deliver retro space-fantasy magic. The film's tactile craftsmanship gives its cosmic hazards real weight and peril for younger audiences. It remains an underrated family adventure classic with enduring charm and heart.
