Godzilla Minus One

Godzilla Minus One is Takashi Yamazaki's 2023 kaiju landmark, the first Japanese Godzilla film since Shin Godzilla — set in a Japan still in ashes after World War II, where survivors with no military or government left to protect them must face the creature themselves. It returns the franchise to its 1954 roots as a story about devastation rather than spectacle, and it won the series' first Academy Award for its visual effects. In THE MULTIxVERSE, it sits alongside the MonsterVerse films as a Japanese-made counterpoint — proof that a Godzilla movie can still land as devastating human drama first.
