World War Z is Marc Forster's 2013 globe-spanning zombie thriller, with Brad Pitt as Gerry Lane, a former United Nations investigator pulled back into service when a mysterious infection turns whole populations into swarming, sprinting hordes. Loosely inspired by Max Brooks' novel, it swaps the book's oral-history structure for a pandemic-thriller investigation, trading claustrophobic gore for sheer scale. In Horror it's the genre's blockbuster outlier — zombies at plane-crash velocity, and one of the highest-grossing the genre has ever produced.

THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
Reinventing the zombie genre on a monumental global scale, this thriller trades claustrophobic gore for terrifying swarming hordes and high-stakes logistics. Brad Pitt provides a grounded lead presence through a frantic global search for a cure. It stands as one of the most suspenseful large-scale action horror films of its era.
