THE VERDICT

Synthesized from published reviews

Jake Gyllenhaal delivers a physically grueling, emotionally raw performance as a fallen champion fighting to rebuild his life and regain custody of his daughter. Directed with visceral intensity by Antoine Fuqua, it is a powerhouse melodrama of redemption in and out of the ring. Gyllenhaal's ferocious commitment makes every frame magnetic and heartbreaking.
