THE VERDICT

Synthesized from published reviews

Clint Eastwood directs Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela in a stately historical drama centered on the 1995 Rugby World Cup as a vehicle for national unity. While the film can be somewhat earnest and heavy-handed in its inspirational messaging, Freeman's authoritative screen presence holds it together. It is a noble, dignified look at political symbolism in action.
