THE VERDICT

Synthesized from published reviews

Ted Kotcheff's sharp adaptation of Peter Gent's novel remains one of cinema's most unvarnished looks at the physical toll and corporate cynicism of professional football. Nick Nolte delivers a commanding, bruised performance that anchors the film's bitter humor and gritty authenticity. It is an essential sports drama that strips away gridiron romanticism to reveal the cold machinery underneath.
