THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
Will Smith brings charisma to a compelling premise about an alcoholic, destructive superhero who undergoes a corporate public relations makeover. However, a jarring mid-movie genre shift divides the narrative and undermines its best thematic ideas. Despite the tonal whiplash, Smith's performance and the strong opening act make it an intriguing entry in the superhero canon.
