DID YOU KNOW?
The PG-13 rating was introduced by the MPAA in July 1984, largely at the urging of Steven Spielberg following the backlash over intense content in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which had been rated PG.
THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
One of the great unsung sci-fi thrillers of the 1980s -- a film that mashes Cold War paranoia, dream logic, and genuine horror into something far more ambitious than its B-movie premise suggests. Dennis Quaid is enormously charismatic in the lead, David Patrick Kelly's snake-man nightmare sequence is legitimately terrifying, and the film earns its place in history as the first movie ever to carry the PG-13 rating. It has aged surprisingly well.
