The film's core premise was inspired by a real scientific thought experiment: what would happen to a child who experienced time dilation at near-light speed?
THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
One of Disney's most imaginative live-action films and a genuinely strange sci-fi adventure that holds up better than most of its era. Joey Cramer's David is a grounded, relatable kid dropped into an increasingly surreal situation, and the film earns its emotional punch at the end by respecting the real cost of what happened to him. Pee-wee Herman voicing the alien spacecraft as a sardonic pilot is a choice that should not work and absolutely does.
