Legend
August 28, 1985 in theaters
In a timeless mythical forest, a pure-hearted young man named Jack must rescue a princess and protect the last unicorns from a demonic lord who wants to bring eternal darkness to the world. Ridley Scott's 1985 fantasy is a visually ravishing fable built around Tim Curry's iconic portrayal of darkness incarnate -- one of the most theatrical villain performances in fantasy cinema.

DID YOU KNOW?
The film exists in two distinct versions: the US theatrical cut with a Tangerine Dream synth score, and the longer Director's Cut with Jerry Goldsmith's original orchestral score.
THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
Ridley Scott's most visually ravishing film and one of the most gorgeous-looking fantasy productions of the 1980s -- a fairy tale that treats its mythology with complete sincerity. Tom Cruise is earnest and committed as Jack, but the film belongs entirely to Tim Curry's Darkness, one of the most theatrical villain performances in the genre: enormous prosthetics, operatic delivery, complete physical transformation. The Director's Cut restores Jerry Goldsmith's original score and is the definitive version.
