May 23, 2017 in theaters
Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Capt. Jack Sparrow feels the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost sailors led by his old nemesis, the evil Capt. Salazar, escape from the Devil's Triangle. Jack's only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it, he must forge an uneasy alliance with a brilliant and beautiful astronomer and a headstrong young man in the British navy.

THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
The fifth voyage feels like a franchise running on fumes and spectacle in roughly equal measure, though Javier Bardem's ghost-captain Salazar is a genuinely menacing addition who nearly makes it worth the trip alone. The attempt to pass the torch to younger leads — Will Turner's son and a sharp-tongued astronomer — shows the series reaching for a future it never quite grasped. For die-hard fans of the world Jack Sparrow built, there's still enough swash here to buckle; for everyone else, the diminishing returns are hard to ignore. It belongs in the OTHERverse catalog as the fifth chapter of one of blockbuster cinema's most unlikely five-film runs.
