Star Trek: The Animated Series — Season 2
September 7, 1974 on Paramount+
The animated series concludes its run with a shorter second season that includes fan-favorite episodes exploring the crew's personal histories and pushing the Enterprise into stranger corners of the galaxy. For six years following its cancellation, it was the only canonical Star Trek continuation until The Motion Picture.

THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
Featuring original cast voice work and scripts from legendary science-fiction writers, this seventies cartoon serves as an authentic fourth season of Kirk's five-year mission. While the Filmation animation is limited, the show introduced rich lore and imaginative alien worlds that live-action budgets could not afford. It is a delightful and historically significant expansion of classic Star Trek.
PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE
Where this fits in the larger story
Star Trek: The Animated Series -- Season 2 sits after the original crew's live-action missions, extending the 23rd-century frontier. It connects this crew's seasonal arc with the larger Star Trek themes of exploration, diplomacy, identity, and responsibility. Its placement helps viewers follow how this series develops its corner of Federation history without treating the season as a standalone event.
