THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
The second Narnia adaptation is more tonally serious than its predecessor and benefits from the contrast. The conflict between the Pevensies' certainty and Caspian's skepticism gives the film a genuine dramatic engine, and the castle raid sequence is the franchise's most purely kinetic filmmaking. The film's length works against it in its final third, and the romance subplot is handled with the minimum of conviction. A stronger follow-up than the critical consensus suggested at release.
