The entire film was conceived as a coming-of-age story first and an action film second.
THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
The most complete and confident TMNT film of the modern era -- an animated reboot that recovers the franchise's essential energy by treating the turtles as actual teenagers rather than as action heroes in shells. The hand-drawn aesthetic is distinctive and genuinely expressive, and the voice cast captures the dynamic between the brothers with more warmth than any previous film. A reboot that understood what made the original concept work and built from there.
