A reset that works better than the franchise had any right to expect after The Last Knight. The 1990s New York setting gives the film a visual and tonal specificity the Bay entries rarely had, and Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback are a more grounded human pairing than the series has often managed. The Maximals integration is handled with more care than the Dinobots received in the previous film. A franchise relaunch that restored some credibility without fully recovering it.
