A de facto reboot that introduces Mark Wahlberg and a new human cast but carries forward the same visual and structural approach. The Dinobots, long teased, arrive late and briefly. At nearly three hours it is the franchise's longest entry and its most exhausting. The Lockdown antagonist is more interesting than the film makes use of him. An object lesson in the diminishing returns of scale as a primary value.
