DID YOU KNOW?
Sonic's original CGI design was so widely criticized by fans that the studio delayed the film by three months and redesigned him entirely.
THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
A video game adaptation that survived its own pre-release controversy and arrived as a genuinely charming family film. Jim Carrey's Robotnik is the kind of committed comedic villain performance that elevates material around it, and the film's decision to ground Sonic's story in friendship and belonging rather than franchise obligation gives it unexpected warmth. The action sequences are fine. A film that asked to be judged on modest terms and met them.
