Toy Story 2 is one of only a handful of sequels in history to receive better reviews than the original.

THE VERDICT

Synthesized from published reviews

One of the best sequels in animation history -- a film that deepened the original's emotional vocabulary rather than simply repeating it. Jessie's introduction and the revelation of her history with Emily is one of Pixar's great emotional sequences, and the film's central question about what it means to be loved and outgrown gives it a weight that outlasts the adventure plot. The foundation for everything Pixar would build toward in the decade that followed.
