Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
July 2, 2003 in theaters
It's been 10 years since John Connor saved Earth from Judgment Day, and he's now living under the radar, steering clear of using anything Skynet can trace. That is, until he encounters T-X, a robotic assassin ordered to finish what T-1000 started. Good thing Connor's former nemesis, the Terminator, is back to aid the now-adult Connor … just like he promised.

THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
A competent but largely unnecessary continuation that walks back one of T2's most resonant themes -- that the future is not fixed -- to keep the franchise moving forward. Schwarzenegger remains watchable, and the film delivers the action sequences its audience expected. But without Cameron at the helm, the philosophical weight that made the first two films distinctive is largely absent. Remembered mainly for a bleak final act that at least commits to its own logic.
