A legacy sequel that prioritized atmosphere and sound design over narrative coherence and largely got away with it. Daft Punk's score is the most distinctive element of a film defined by its sensory texture, and the Grid is visually compelling in ways the story only intermittently earns. Jeff Bridges manages both father and digital echo with more presence than the film requires. A film that delivered exactly what its trailer promised and not much more -- which, for a certain audience, was entirely sufficient.
