With machine sentinels digging to Zion in 72 hours, Neo, Morpheus and Trinity must find the Keymaker to ultimately reach the Source.

A sequel that expands the mythology at the cost of some of the original's tight urgency. The philosophical architecture grows more elaborate, the action sequences more operatic, and the film's confidence in its own ideas occasionally tips into indulgence. The highway chase remains one of the most technically ambitious action sequences of its decade. Best understood as the first movement of a two-part conclusion rather than a complete statement on its own.
