The Bourne Legacy
August 8, 2012 in theaters
While Jason Bourne's actions expose the Treadstone program, a parallel black-ops operation called Outcome is shut down and its agents eliminated. Aaron Cross, the one operative who survives the purge, goes on the run with a scientist who holds the key to keeping him alive. The fourth Bourne film expands the universe beyond its original protagonist.

THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
A spinoff that introduces Aaron Cross as a parallel operative and attempts to expand the franchise's world by running concurrently with Ultimatum's events. Jeremy Renner is a credible lead and the Manila sequences are viscerally effective. The film never quite justifies its own existence -- Cross's arc lacks the identity crisis that gave Bourne his dramatic engine. A competent expansion that demonstrated the limits of the premise beyond its original protagonist.
