The Karate Kid Part III
June 30, 1989 in theaters
Returning to Reseda after his All-Valley Tournament victory, Daniel LaRusso faces a campaign of harassment engineered by Cobra Kai's backer Terry Silver, who hires a ruthless challenger and manipulates Daniel into doubting Mr. Miyagi's teachings. DID YOU KNOW?
Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio were both reluctant to make a third film -- they felt the story had been fully told in Part II.
THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
The weakest entry in the original trilogy -- a film that reduces the Miyagi-Daniel relationship to repetition without development and introduces a villain whose menace is more asserted than earned. The tournament-revenge structure recycles the original too closely without the emotional grounding that made the first film work. Morita and Macchio remain watchable, and there are individual scenes that recall what made the series compelling. A sequel that ran out of things to say.
