THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
John Woo's imprint on the franchise is unmistakable and divisive. M:I-2 trades the original's cerebral tension for operatic slow-motion action and a romance-heavy structure that feels grafted from a different genre entirely. Cruise commits fully, and the action sequences are technically accomplished on their own terms. But the gap between what the first film established and what this one delivers is wide enough that it functions as a stylistic detour more than a progression.
