The DeLorean was chosen as the time machine because its stainless steel body made for a fun visual -- Doc Brown originally used a refrigerator.
THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
One of the cleanest screenplays in Hollywood history, wrapped in a film that has never stopped feeling alive. The time-travel mechanics are airtight, the comedy is character-driven rather than incidental, and the parent-child inversion at the heart of the story gives it an emotional resonance that outlasts the spectacle. Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd together are irreplaceable. It was never going to be topped, and it wasn't.
