THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
An audacious sequel that sacrifices some of the original's warmth for a more complex, self-reflexive structure. The 2015 vision is inventive and witty, and the film's willingness to reframe scenes from the first movie is genuinely clever rather than merely nostalgic. It sags slightly in its middle third, but rewards close attention more than most sequels dare to. Best understood as the first half of one long and satisfying story.
