QUOTE
"I'm not saying it's a coincidence. It's clearly an alien attack."
DID YOU KNOW?
Will Smith improvised the line 'Welcome to Earth' after punching the alien -- it became one of the most quoted lines of the 90s.
THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
The film that defined the 1990s blockbuster at its most maximalist -- enormous in scale, unabashedly patriotic, and entirely sincere about its own preposterousness. Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum are perfectly cast against each other, and the White House destruction sequence landed with genuine impact at the time of release. The film is not interested in plausibility and doesn't need to be. A summer spectacle that understood its own genre completely and delivered exactly what it promised.
