Spider-Man 3
May 1, 2007 in theaters
The seemingly invincible Spider-Man goes up against an all-new crop of villains—including the shape-shifting Sandman. While Spider-Man’s superpowers are altered by an alien organism, his alter ego, Peter Parker, deals with nemesis Eddie Brock and also gets caught up in a love triangle.

THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
Spider-Man 3 is a film that collapses under the weight of too many demands — a symbiote arc, a Sandman redemption story, and a Harry Osborn resolution that deserved its own film. What survives is genuinely good: Thomas Haden Church's Sandman is treated with unexpected empathy, and the action sequences are technically impressive. But the jazz-club sequence, the villain crowding, and a rushed third act reveal a production that lost the editorial thread. It's not the disaster its reputation suggests, but it marked the point where studio ambition overran Raimi's vision.
PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE
Where this fits in the larger story
Spider-Man 3 belongs to Sony's Spider-Man film history, separate from the main MCU continuity unless a later crossover explicitly connects it. It explores Peter Parker's world, villains, and personal responsibilities through its own version of Spider-Man mythology. Its placement helps viewers track this branch alongside the MCU and animated Spider-Verse without blending them into one timeline.
