X2

THE VERDICT

Synthesized from published reviews

The rare sequel that improves on every element of its predecessor — the political allegory is sharper, the action is more confident, and the ensemble finally has enough screen time to function as one. The film's best sequence, the Wolverine hallway fight, remains a benchmark for how to shoot a contained action scene: fast, brutal, and over before it overstays its welcome. The third act is more complicated than the first film's and slightly less satisfying, but the ending earns genuine emotional weight. The high point of the Fox X-Men era and one of the better superhero sequels made.

X2 belongs to Marvel's wider screen history, outside a single clean continuity unless the record clearly connects it to the MCU. It adapts familiar Marvel characters through its own branch of superhero, fantasy, or action storytelling. Its placement helps viewers understand how this title fits the broader Marvel xVERSE while keeping separate continuities from being blended together.
