THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance leans harder into grindhouse energy than its predecessor and is more visually distinctive for it — the European locations give the film a texture the original lacked, and the action is more stylized and committed. Nicolas Cage pushes the character further into unhinged territory, which fits the material better than restraint would. What it sacrifices is narrative coherence: the plot is minimal, the villain is underwritten, and the film is more interested in its set pieces than its stakes. As a pure action object it delivers more consistently than the first film; as a superhero story it barely qualifies. It knows what it is.
PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE
Where this fits in the larger story
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance sits in Marvel's pre-MCU or non-MCU screen legacy, adapting comic-book characters through a separate continuity. It connects Marvel's larger history of heroes, antiheroes, and experiments in genre storytelling before the modern shared universe became dominant. Its placement helps viewers understand this title as part of the wider Marvel xVERSE without treating it as core MCU canon.
