Spider-Man
September 14, 1977 in theaters
Peter Parker -- a mild-mannered scientist who operates as Spider-Man -- faces an extortionist threatening mass casualties unless a massive ransom is paid. The 1977 TV movie is the first live-action Spider-Man feature and served as the pilot for the short-lived CBS series, presenting a grounded, pre-blockbuster take on the character.

THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
The 1977 Spider-Man TV movie is the first live-action screen adaptation of the character, and assessed in that context it accomplishes more than its budget and era might suggest. Nicholas Hammond's Peter Parker is likeable and grounded, and the series's refusal to exaggerate the character into camp gives it a sincerity that holds up better than flashier productions of the period. The web-slinging sequences are inventive given practical effects constraints, and the late-1970s television aesthetic places it firmly as a document of a specific moment in superhero adaptation history. Modest in scope and earnest in execution — exactly what the character needed in order to reach a television audience in 1977.
PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE
Where this fits in the larger story
Spider-Man belongs to Sony's Spider-Man film history, separate from the main MCU continuity unless a later crossover explicitly connects it. It explores Peter Parker's world, villains, and personal responsibilities through its own version of Spider-Man mythology. Its placement helps viewers track this branch alongside the MCU and animated Spider-Verse without blending them into one timeline.
