The Incredible Hulk Returns

THE VERDICT

Synthesized from published reviews

The Incredible Hulk Returns is a reunion TV movie that brought Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno back to their defining roles and introduced Thor into the CBS Marvel universe — a crossover experiment that is more interesting as a concept than a film. The Banner-Hulk dynamic that made the original series work is still present, and Bixby remains a compelling center. Thor's integration is awkward by design — the character is played broadly, which creates tonal friction against the series's established earnestness. As a piece of nostalgia for the original run and a curiosity in Marvel adaptation history, it rewards patient viewers. As a standalone film, the seams show.

The Incredible Hulk Returns sits in Marvel's pre-MCU or non-MCU screen legacy, adapting comic-book characters through a separate continuity. It connects Marvel's larger history of heroes, antiheroes, and experiments in genre storytelling before the modern shared universe became dominant. Its placement helps viewers understand this title as part of the wider Marvel xVERSE without treating it as core MCU canon.
