Catwoman

THE VERDICT

Synthesized from published reviews

Catwoman holds a specific place in DC film history as a production that departed so far from the character's source material — the name and the cat association remain, but virtually nothing else survives — that it functions less as an adaptation than as an original property wearing familiar branding. Halle Berry commits to the physical demands of the role, and the film has a visual energy in its action sequences that suggests a more functional film somewhere in its parts. The screenplay does not support the performance, and the villain's motivations reduce to cosmetics industry villainy. Assessed honestly and without cheap shots, it is a film that did not work.

Catwoman sits within DC's broader screen legacy, outside the main modern connected continuities. It connects a specific character or comic-book lane with the long history of DC adaptations before shared universes became the default model. Its placement helps viewers understand this title as part of the wider DC xVERSE archive rather than a direct step in the DCEU or DCU timeline.
