Morbius
April 1, 2022 in theaters
Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Michael Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.

THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
Morbius reaches for a brooding antihero tone and settles into a rote origin story, but the ambition is real and occasionally visible. Jared Leto commits to the physical and psychological transformation, and the science-based approach to vampirism is a legitimate attempt to stake out different territory from the supernatural versions of the character. The screenplay prioritizes plot mechanics over the character development that would make those mechanics matter, and the pacing leaves little room for the psychology the premise requires. Matt Smith is the most alive presence on screen. It is more sincere than its reputation suggests, and more underbaked than its potential deserved.
PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE
Where this fits in the larger story
Morbius sits in Sony's Spider-Man-adjacent live-action universe, a branch that explores characters connected to Spider-Man mythology outside the core MCU path. It connects antiheroes, villains, and side-corners of Marvel lore with a separate continuity focused on darker or stranger character arcs. Its placement helps viewers distinguish this lane from MCU Spider-Man and the animated Spider-Verse.
