Venom: Let There Be Carnage

THE VERDICT

Synthesized from published reviews

Venom: Let There Be Carnage leans fully into the Eddie-Venom odd-couple dynamic and is better for it — the film plays as a screwball horror-comedy more than a superhero sequel, and Tom Hardy commits to both registers with apparent delight. Woody Harrelson's Carnage is visually chaotic and narratively thin, functioning more as a plot engine than a character, and the finale is too brief to pay off the threat he represents. But the mid-film breakup sequence and the Halloween party setpiece capture something genuinely strange and entertaining that the first film only approximated. A film that succeeds by lowering its own stakes.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage sits in Sony's Spider-Man-adjacent live-action universe, a branch that explores characters connected to Spider-Man mythology outside the core MCU path. It connects antiheroes, villains, and side-corners of Marvel lore with a separate continuity focused on darker or stranger character arcs. Its placement helps viewers distinguish this lane from MCU Spider-Man and the animated Spider-Verse.
