Peacemaker — Season 1

THE VERDICT

Synthesized from published reviews

Peacemaker Season 1 is the best argument the DCEU made for television as an extension of its universe — a show that understood that the most interesting thing about Christopher Smith is the discomfort of enjoying him, and built an entire season around that tension without resolving it dishonestly. John Cena's performance is more layered than his 2021 film introduction suggested, and the ensemble assembled around him earns its own emotional register by the finale. The tone slides between gonzo action comedy and genuine pathos with unusual ease. One of the better superhero television series made, and the clearest signal that the new DCU had a distinct creative identity.

Where this fits in the larger story

Peacemaker Season 1 sits in DC's connected screen continuity, following Christopher Smith after his introduction through the Suicide Squad corner of the franchise. It connects covert government missions, violent antihero comedy, and larger DC consequences with a more personal look at damaged heroism. Its placement helps viewers track how smaller character-driven stories can still shape the wider DC xVERSE.
