Creature Commandos — Season 1
December 5, 2024 on Max
Amanda Waller assembles Task Force M, a black-ops team of non-human inmates from Belle Reve, after human prisoners become politically impossible to deploy. Led into the field by Rick Flag Sr., the animated series introduces the Bride, Doctor Phosphorus, G.I. Robot, Weasel, and Nina Mazursky as the first chapter of the new DCU.

THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
Creature Commandos is the DCU's first animated series and a smart choice for it — a property sufficiently obscure to carry no franchise baggage, built around a concept that justifies tonal extremes the flagship films cannot afford. The voice cast is game, the animation is distinctive rather than generic, and the show's willingness to be genuinely strange in its creature designs and comedy registers is largely rewarded. The season is short enough that its pacing issues do not accumulate, and it ends in a place that meaningfully expands the DCU's operating range. A confident, self-possessed debut for the animated arm of the new universe.
PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE
Where this fits in the larger story
Creature Commandos Season 1 sits in the early DCU, using an unconventional team to introduce stranger corners of the new continuity. It connects military missions, supernatural characters, and government-backed operations with the larger world that later heroes and teams will inhabit. Its placement helps viewers see how the DCU can expand beyond traditional superhero stories from the start.
