What If...? — Season 3

THE VERDICT

Synthesized from published reviews

What If...? Season 3 serves as both anthology continuation and series finale, and it largely earns the weight that second role requires. The Watcher's arc across the three seasons reaches a resolution with more emotional coherence than the format might have promised, and several episodes — particularly the episodes that revisit setup from earlier seasons — pay off threads planted much earlier. The season is uneven in the way all anthologies are, with some installments feeling like structural obligations rather than fully realized stories. As an ending for a project that could have been disposable, it is more considered and more satisfying than expected.

What If Season 3 sits in the MCU's Phase 5, extending the animated multiverse anthology beyond its initial experiments. It connects alternate versions of heroes and events with the franchise's ongoing exploration of branching realities. Its placement helps viewers see how Marvel can use animation to test possibilities, themes, and character combinations outside the main live-action path.
