What If...? — Season 2

THE VERDICT

Synthesized from published reviews

What If...? Season 2 demonstrates that the anthology format can sustain ongoing quality rather than peaking on novelty alone. The season leans into deeper-cut multiverse scenarios and spends more time with characters — particularly Nebula and Strange Supreme — who were underserved in the first run. Individual episodes continue to range from emotionally precise to pleasingly absurd, and the animation maintains a consistent visual ambition. It is incrementally less striking than season one, which had the advantage of being new, but it expands the project's emotional vocabulary and confirms the format as something more durable than a one-season experiment.

What If Season 2 sits in the MCU's Phase 4, continuing the animated anthology approach to alternate Marvel realities. It connects familiar heroes, changed choices, and multiverse consequences with a format built around possibility rather than one fixed timeline. Its placement helps viewers track how Marvel uses animation to explore branches that inform the tone and scale of the larger saga.
