THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
The MCU's most self-aware franchise crossover and the one that most openly acknowledges the strangeness of its own premise — bringing Deadpool into the Marvel universe while using Wolverine as the structural and emotional anchor is a cleaner idea than it had any right to be, and the film earns the pairing. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's chemistry is the film's primary asset, and the script deploys it efficiently enough that the jokes don't fully swallow the character work. The villain and the plot are serviceable rather than memorable, and the film is about twenty minutes too long. The most enjoyable thing the MCU produced in Phase 5, and one that required almost no prior investment to work.
