THE VERDICT

Synthesized from published reviews

The film that proved R-rated superhero cinema had a commercial future, and it holds up because the jokes are built into the character rather than sprayed over a generic story. Ryan Reynolds carries the whole film on timing and self-awareness, and the fourth-wall breaks work because they're structured into the screenplay rather than improvised. The villain and the romance are the weakest elements — both are functional but not interesting. A genuine creative swing that landed, and a film that changed what studios were willing to greenlight.

Its placement helps viewers follow how this entry supports the MCU's broader movement from individual origin stories toward expanding teams, cosmic stakes, and multiverse consequences.
