THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
The MCU's first genuine comedy, and it works because it stays at street level — the heist premise keeps the stakes small and personal, which turns out to be exactly the right register for a character who can shrink to the size of an ant. Paul Rudd's Scott Lang is the franchise's most ordinary protagonist, and the film uses that ordinariness as a feature rather than a limitation. The third act defaults to a miniaturized version of the standard MCU action climax, which is both a literal and structural joke the film earns. A modest film that does exactly what it sets out to do.
