DID YOU KNOW?
Will Smith's Deadshot and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn were universally praised despite the film's critical reception.
THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
The 2016 film arrives with an undeniable cast and a memorable marketing campaign, and the gap between those assets and the finished film is the most discussed quality in its legacy. Will Smith's Deadshot and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn both land, and the film has enough individual moments to suggest what a more coherent version might have been. But the editing is fragmented, the villain is among the weakest in the genre, and the tonal shifts between darkness and pop-song montage never stabilize. A film that squandered more potential than almost any in the franchise's history.
PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE
Where this fits in the larger story
Suicide Squad sits within the modern DC connected-film era, where heroes, antiheroes, and government forces begin reshaping the public world. It connects individual character arcs with the larger consequences of metahumans becoming visible across the planet. Its placement helps viewers follow the DCEU-era continuity while recognizing how each title adds a different corner to DC's screen mythology.
