THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is the DCEU's most ambitious structural gamble — a film that attempts to collapse an origin story, a character continuation, and a franchise launch into a single two-and-a-half hour narrative, and pays for all three. The central thesis — that the world's response to Superman's power would be fear and suspicion as much as reverence — is genuinely interesting, and Ben Affleck's Batman is a strong interpretation. But the plot mechanics are strained, the villain's plan is contrived, and the film sacrifices coherence in service of setup. More interesting in its ambitions than its execution, and a foundational text for understanding the DCEU's central creative tension.

Its placement helps viewers follow the DCEU-era continuity while recognizing how each title adds a different corner to DC's screen mythology.
