Aquaman
December 7, 2018 in theaters
Reluctant heir to the Atlantean throne, Arthur Curry must embrace his dual human and Atlantean heritage to prevent his half-brother from launching a war against the surface world. James Wan's entry gives the DC catalog an underwater mythology built around lineage, rival factions, and an ancient kingdom reclaiming its future.

"There is a whole world out there -- entire kingdoms -- and I have done nothing but run from it."

Jason Momoa based his portrayal on Conan the Barbarian rather than the traditional comics version.
THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
Aquaman is the most visually maximalist film in the DCEU catalog — an unapologetically large-scale underwater adventure that commits to its own outsized spectacle with a confidence that makes the film consistently enjoyable even when the script does not justify it. Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry is exactly what the character needs: physically imposing, genuinely funny, and comfortable with the film's refusal to take itself too seriously. The plot is conventional, the villain is adequate, and the worldbuilding occasionally overwhelms the story. But the film delivers the thing it promises at a scale the genre rarely attempts, and that delivery is its own form of craft.
PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE
Where this fits in the larger story
Aquaman sits within the modern DC connected-film era, where heroes, antiheroes, and government forces begin reshaping the public world. It connects individual character arcs with the larger consequences of metahumans becoming visible across the planet. Its placement helps viewers follow the DCEU-era continuity while recognizing how each title adds a different corner to DC's screen mythology.
