Iron Man 2

THE VERDICT

Synthesized from published reviews

A step down from the original, but not the disaster its reputation suggests. The Senate hearing scene and the Monaco sequence are the film at its best — sharp, character-driven, and aware of what it's doing. The back half loses focus when it tries to set up the broader universe at the expense of Tony's actual arc, and the villain is the franchise's thinnest to that point. It works as a middle chapter and not much more, which is exactly what it needed to be.

Iron Man 2 belongs to Marvel's wider screen history, outside a single clean continuity unless the record clearly connects it to the MCU. It adapts familiar Marvel characters through its own branch of superhero, fantasy, or action storytelling. Its placement helps viewers understand how this title fits the broader Marvel xVERSE while keeping separate continuities from being blended together.
