Thor: Ragnarok

THE VERDICT

Synthesized from published reviews

Taika Waititi rebuilds Thor as a cosmic comedy and the result is the most purely entertaining film in the Thor franchise — the Sakaar sequences are inventive, Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie is immediately one of the MCU's best supporting characters, and Goldblum is deployed exactly correctly. The Hela plot is the film's weakest element and gets progressively less interesting as the film goes on. Ragnarok is most valuable as proof that a character who wasn't working could be entirely reconceived without breaking what the franchise had built. It's a comedy that happens to have stakes, and the balance mostly holds.

Thor: Ragnarok belongs to Marvel's wider screen history, outside a single clean continuity unless the record clearly connects it to the MCU. It adapts familiar Marvel characters through its own branch of superhero, fantasy, or action storytelling. Its placement helps viewers understand how this title fits the broader Marvel xVERSE while keeping separate continuities from being blended together.
