Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
May 3, 2023 in theaters
Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

"We're all going to die someday. But today's not that day."

DID YOU KNOW?
Rocket's origin story was praised as one of the most emotionally devastating arcs in the entire MCU.
THE VERDICT
Synthesized from published reviews
James Gunn's farewell to the franchise he built is also the most emotionally committed film in the MCU's Phase 5 — the Rocket origin story gives the film a genuine emotional through-line that the franchise rarely sustains across a full runtime. The High Evolutionary is the right kind of villain for this story: not world-ending, just cruel, which makes the stakes feel personal rather than abstract. It's too long and the final act restructures the team in ways that strain credibility, but the heart of the film holds. A proper ending for characters who deserved one.
PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE
Where this fits in the larger story
Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 sits in the MCU's Phase 5, continuing the cosmic team story after years of crossover events. It connects the Guardians' found-family arc with the franchise's wider interest in identity, loss, and responsibility beyond Earth. Its placement helps viewers follow how Marvel's space-facing heroes remain part of the MCU while carrying a distinct emotional and visual lane.
THE NEXUS TRIGGER
Post-credit connections to the broader multiverse
Confirms a new lineup for the Guardians with Rocket as de-facto leader and teases Peter Quill's eventual return to the team.
Peter Quill has returned to Earth to reconnect with his family, but appears restless, suggesting his eventual return to the cosmos.
